Week 5 — 14th — 20th

Wow, what a week! This week, I got confirmation that I can go with my idea for my thesis project, so that was really nice! We are working on an annotated bibliography for Dr. Gaffney’s research methods class, and I remember in undergrad thinking needing 5-10 articles was a lot a now i need to find a minimum of 20! I am very grateful for my professors at CSUB who have helped to prepare me for Grad school because it is really coming in handy.

This week, we also learned how to analyze a new type of analysis (and I’m sorry, Benny, I still don’t understand). The Cohort is helping each other out with our annotated bibliography’s and making sure that everyone is succeeding.

I am getting ready to present for the first time in grad school, and I am nervous but also feeling prepared. I didn’t have to go first, and being able to see how everyone responds as well as what is expected is really helpful. I am feeling more prepared, and once I actually read what I’m presenting on I think that I will be okay.

I landed myself in ER in Mad River on Tuesday night, I believe, and thank you to everyone for checking in. I am okay. I just had a bunch of kidney issues going on and was in quite a bit of pain, so I needed to get checked out. Big thanks to Melissa for driving me to the ER at like 10 pm, you’re a real one and I owe you one.

I have started getting involved in SPARK Lab again at CSUB, and that is going well. It has definitely been helpful in giving me ideas for my thesis, and helping me put together the assignments related to it. Being able to be around individuals who have researched Imposter Phenomenon is helpful for getting ideas, and articles, as well as being able to have a conversation about it.

At CPH I am in the Social Influence Lab and that is also going well. We are helping Dr. Gold find articles for a book chapter that he is writing for a Social Influence textbook, so that has been an experience. Finding articles on it has helped me get a better understanding of what he likes to do for research and what his interests are. He also showed everyone how to apply for grants (money) this week, which was super helpful, and I found a few that I am going to look into and maybe apply for, so that way I can conduct my research for my thesis. The more I go through this semester, the more information I am learning about and retaining it all is challenging lol.

I have been unable to find my planner since moving, and so I finally broke down and bought a new one, and it’s super cute. Having one is definitely helping me stay on track with the assignments and lab things that I need to keep track of. There is so much going on at once in grad school that it is absolutely wild.

My boyfriend visited me this weekend, and it was really nice to see him again. He was super nice and drove up a couple of things that I realized I either left at home or things that we ran out of during the month we lived here. He also took my roommate and I to Costco and Target so that we could stock up on things. We also got to so many fun of things, like he took us to the zoo in Eureka and we got to see some really cool animals, and we got to go on the skywalk, which is way up in the trees, and it was really fun. Jenny and I got to show him around Arcata, including downtown Arcata, and it was really fun. I miss everyone from home, and I’m looking forward to visiting over the Holidays. I got to show him Redwood Park, which is one of my new favorite spots, although it is extremely sketchy after dark.

Welp that’s all the info I have for this week haha.
